Woven Bamboo Gourd Pendant — 23cm

A close-weave gourd that glows through its belly and prints a fine lattice up the wall.

Bamboo woven in a tight diamond lattice into a gourd — a full rounded belly narrowing to a flat shoulder and a short neck — hung on a slim cord from a round 10 cm ceiling canopy. Lit, the whole belly turns into a fine grid of light and the open base pools light straight down; unlit, it reads as a warm basket under a slim disc. At 23 cm wide and 26 cm tall it is a mid-size piece — over a kitchen counter, a hallway, a landing, or in a pair either side of a bed.

What you get

• Size: 23 cm (about 9 in) wide, 26 cm (about 10 in) tall
• Shade: bamboo in a close diamond weave, gourd-shaped, open at the base
• Base and cord: 10 cm (about 4 in) round ceiling canopy, 120 cm (about 47 in) cord, adjustable at install
• Fitting: standard screw-base socket, rated 90–260 V
• Bulb: not included

Why it works

• The weave is tight enough to hide the bulb but open enough to pattern the wall, so the light is soft without being dull
• Taller than it is wide, so it hangs as a drop rather than a bowl and takes less width over a counter
• Small enough to run in a pair either side of a bed, where the egg is its natural partner
• Open at the base, so it lights the surface underneath as well as the walls
• A close weave keeps the shape steady in a draught where a looser one would swing

Before you buy

This is a hardwired ceiling fixture and needs an existing ceiling box; have an electrician hang it if you are not comfortable working at one. No bulb is included — a warm 2700 K LED shows the weave best. Bamboo is a dry-room material, so keep it out of bathrooms and away from steam. Weave spacing and exact diameter vary a little from the photographs.
