Thin flat bamboo slats set radially around a centre, each curved like a pumpkin segment, into a squat open dome with the bulb sitting in the middle — hung on a black cord from a round wood ceiling cap. Lit, the gaps between the slats throw ribs of light out and up and the open base lights the surface below; unlit, the slats read as pale wood grain with the bulb visible between them. At 18 cm across and 12 cm tall it is a small, low piece — over a counter, a bedside, a hallway, or in a row where headroom is short.

Why it works

Before you buy

This is a hardwired ceiling fixture and needs an existing ceiling box; have an electrician hang it if you are not comfortable working at one. No bulb is included — a warm 2700 K LED shows the slats best, and because the bulb is visible between the slats from below, a frosted or filament-style bulb looks better than a bare bright one. Bamboo is a dry-room material, so keep it out of bathrooms and away from steam. The supplier does not state the cord length; if you need a specific drop, ask before ordering or plan to have it set at install. Slat spacing and exact diameter vary a little from the photographs.
