Flat bamboo strips gathered into a ring at the top and bowed out into a teardrop, widest low down, with a plain slate-blue fabric liner inside. The shade hangs on a cord from a straight solid-wood arm on a square wood backplate. Lit, the liner glows an even blue-grey through the strips and the wall behind takes soft bars of shadow; unlit, the pale strips over the blue read as a quiet, cool shape against a warm block of wood. At 18 cm wide and 23 cm tall it is the slimmest of the three arm sconces — a narrow hallway, a bedside, a reading corner.

Why it works

Before you buy

This is a hardwired wall fixture and needs an existing wall box; have an electrician fit it if you are not comfortable working at one. No bulb is included — a warm 2700 K LED keeps the blue soft; a cool bulb turns it grey. Bamboo is a dry-room material, so keep it out of bathrooms and away from steam. The shade of blue and the exact spacing of the strips vary a little from the photographs.
